I've been hard pressed to believe the hype surrounding any earth shattering, civilization altering events. My career and business projects exposed me to many levels of the Y2K sideshow, from the corporate marketing to the media hysteria surrounding the non-event. The Y2K fiasco was an all-around joke and the number hucksters that made money hand over fist with Y2K bug fixes was incredible. 2/3 of the world made no preparations for Y2K and the amazing thing is... we're all still here.
There's not much to many end of the world scenarios, but the Mayan Long Count Calendar and the fact that it mysteriously ends on the morning of 21 December 2012 is particularly fascinating. Never mind that the calendar is cyclical and could have been understood to just start over - it's still fascinating that we could for all intents and purposes be living in end times.
This project is an attempt into something I believe is called viral marketing - I've based this business model on a popular culture meme (or a representation of one) that hopefully will spread and gain a business presence on the InterTubes and through social networking. If this model does work, I'll make some money (woo hoo) as well as getting the 2012 end-times awareness out.
This business model makes use of an "on demand" merchandizing operation. My better half (she makes most of the sound fashion and financial decisions) lays out what we should put out as a prospective new 2012 sale item, we see how many hits we get pertaining to the new item and then we line up some manufacturers to fulfill these orders. If the new sale item is DOA, then it gets dropped.
So you are all invited to partake in this grand business experiment. Find a 2012 supply item that strikes a chord with you and buy it.
You might just get people to think about the future. Maybe the Mayans had something.
With...
global warming
economic collapse
the new cold war
Peak OIL
...we very well may be looking at the end times.
So go on and buy some stuff.
Thank you!
